Thread: and so this is fifty something ...

and so this is fifty something ...

I hate BMI. I'm borderline between normal and overweight depending on how bloated I am on any given day. You've seen me. I'm not as lean as NMNM by any means, but damn, I don't think I should be in the overweight category either!

Actually, my weight is fine for the BMI chart, I'm just too short

Saturday - 11/3 - LB training with NMNM

It is a nice day here in New England. We are back to our normal routine.

    Stretch & Foam Roll
warm up - single arm KB swings - 24Kgx10x3
    Trap bar DL - 45x10, 135x10 - work 235x10x3
    DB rev lunges - 30ex10x2
    KB Swings - 32Kgx10x3
    X band walks - 10ex3
    NG Pull up - BWx5x3
    Stretch & Foam Roll

Afterwards we went out for pizza, beer and ice cream. Since the weather is so nice, we are having our friends come over and we are going to cook beer can chicken on the roof deck this evening.

    Monday 11/5 Mixed Bag

I'm not a fan of the time change morning daylight is not better than a later sunset. When you work in a skyscraper, sunset comes way too early between now and mid-January.

    Stretch & Foam Roll
KB drills double arm rack, squat, press
    20Kg(e)x8x5,
    Superset Bench and Hurdles
    Bench 175x10, 205x7, 205x6, 185x5
    Hurdles 5 x 3 rounds
Superset single leg hurdles and Inv KB iso Holds
    SL hurdles 10ex3
    Inverted KB ISO Holds 12Kgx25s, 30s, 45s
    Stretch & Foam Roll

Hell, this was a crappy workout. I didn't sleep and it showed up in my performance. The KB drills just crushed my arms and shoulders. Even though I had less weight, the jump to 5 sets of 8 reps was probably too much. My bench press sucked my shoulders were bitching and we probably added too much after the first set 175 to 205 wasn't happening this morning. My PT even joked that it was clear my press was "just awful." This complaint is clearly a high class problem, end of bitching.

Saturday - 11/17 - Coaching NMNM and a little UB stuff

The quad insertion point is still tender. I'm getting better, I managed a full night's sleep for the first time since Tuesday

Stretch and a little foam rolling
    KB swings - 20Kgx10x5
Push Ups - one hand on a vertical DB - 10ex4
    Diamond Push Ups - Bwx12x5
    DB Curlz - 25ex10, 35ex10
    KB swings - 40Kgx10x3
    Cable Fly - 30ex10x3
    Stretch

Kept it very simple and avoided using my legs as much as possible. I'm getting better and the swelling is greatly reduced. I hope to be back to 100% by the Holiday.

Damn re: the quad injury. Hope it gets better soon. I still can't believe we are already entering the holiday season. Where did the year go?

Thanks, I feel a lot better. Once again the secret to my recovery is Ice, Ice, Baby!

The Holiday's being here is so much better than the fact that we are also in Year End Review Season

    Monday 11/19 UB Strength

My quad and knee are nearly normal. We had sports massages yesterday and that helped quite a bit.

    Limited Stretches & Foam Rolling
Superset DB Bench and CG Lat Pull down
    DB Bench 45ex6 work 65ex12, 75ex10, 80ex10, 90ex8
    Close Grip Lat Pulls 140x12, 150x12, 160x12x2
Superset Decline DB Fly and yoga thing (1 rep = 2 pushups then 1 down dog)
    Decline DB Fly 45ex10x2
    Yoga Thing BWx10repsx2
    Bench 200x8,7,6
    Limited Stretches & Foam Rolling

I was pretty happy with this workout. I haven't used heavy DB's in quite a while. I was able to kick up the 80's and 90's without any difficulty. The sets were supposed to be 12,10,8,6 but the weight was moving okay so I just did the extra work. I guess I ended up trading those reps for the bench finishers as I should have been able to cleanly do 200x8x3 even with little to no leg drive.

    Hey, Welcome Back!

The storm was a non event for us here in downtown Boston. Even Zeke was cool - and he really hates storms after growing up in Texas.

Thursday - 11/22 - LB training with NMNM

My quad was doing better so I tried to do a part of NMNM's program.

    Stretch & Foam Roll

    Trap Bar DL - 225x10x3
    Front Squats - 25x8x4
    Curlz - 65x10x2, 70x10x2
    X Band walk - 12ex4
    Stretch & Foam Roll

    Friday - 11/23 - Strength Training

    Stretch & Foam Roll
KB Swings to T Openers, 24kgx12, then 10 openers 3 sets
    Single Arm KB Snatch, 32kgx2(e)x5
    Cable Push, 20x10(e), 30x10(e), 40x10(e)
Superset - Bench and Cable Row
    Bench Press, 45x10, 145x8 - work - 195x6x3
    Double Arm Cable Pull, 50x10, 60x10, 70x10
    Landmines, Barx10(e), Bar+10x10(e) work - Bar+30x10(e)x3
    Stretch & Foam Roll

So we managed to have a couple of good workouts in addition to our holiday meal and having the newlyweds with us.

Saturday - 11/24 - LB training with NMNM

I wanted to go heavy today on the Trap Bar DL, but it was occupied by another regular who was doing poor form volume training. To keep my eyes from bleeding I just looked away

    Stretch & Foam Roll
    KB swings - various grips - 24Kgx10x6
    Cable Pull Thru - 27.5x8x2
    RDL - 135x10, 145x8, 155x8, 145x10
    DB Rev Lunges - 35ex10x2
    KB Swings - 32Kgx6, 40Kgx12x3
    Plyo jumps
    Chins - BWx5x3
    Stretch & Foam Roll

The gym was very crowded. It seems that the best way to recover from a Thanksgiving Feast is to do curls

Ha! I worked my volume up a little bit. But, I actually didn't do any curls. That explains why I'm not getting huge.

I think Lou needs to write a pamphlet - "New Rules of Lifting for Curlz" cause there is clearly a huge market for it :tongue

    Monday 11/26 Strength

The holiday guest crowds have left the gym so we were able to train without crowds or distractions this morning.

    Stretch & Foam Roll
Triple Set Bench Press / Chin Up / Plyo Jumps
    Bench 200x8, 210x8, 225x5, 230x5
    Chins BW+25x4, BW+30x3x3
    Plyo Jumps 5x4
Superset KB Press & KB Swings (both double arm)
    KB Press 24Kg(e)x10x3
    KB Swings 20Kg(e)x10x3
Superset Hammer Rows / Push Ups
    Hammer Rows 90ex12, 100ex12, 115ex12
Push Up 5 to down dog then 5 clapping 3 rounds
    Stretch & Foam Roll

This was probably my best workout in several weeks. I went past the targeted rep counts on the last three sets of bench. We had to add weight to both the chin ups and the rows. There is clearly a performance connection between being well fueled and well rested after the long Holiday weekend.
