Thought I would go ahead and get the thread started. Season just around the corner.
Will the Tide repeat? Will Les Miles call a bone headed play and lose a critical Game? Johnny Football? Will he repeat as Heisman ?

    College Football 2013

    College football in July?

I'm trying not to think about football, because my team (Missouri) doesn't figure to be a whole lot better than they were in 2012.

Fortunately, my baseball team is pretty good this year, which makes it easy to keep my mind off football.

I'm so disappointed in Arkansas... They shouldn't have lost to Rutgers, I don't care how far they've slipped. It's like losing to a AA team.

I don't think I've overheard a single conversation about football yet -- college or pro -- that wasn't about how disappointed someone is with his or her team. A few days ago it was Michigan alumni. Yesterday it was Eagles fans.

My own team (Missouri) is doing great, but that's just because they haven't started SEC play yet. First 2 conference games are at Vandy and Georgia, followed by home games against Florida and South Carolina. Mizzou could be 4-0 at the start of that run and 4-4 by the end. And then they finish the season w. Ole Miss and A&M. Winning 2 of those 6 would be pretty good.

Pretty funny to read this 2 months later, with Missouri 11-1 and playing for the SEC title against Auburn next Saturday. And the one game they lost was in double overtime against a very good South Carolina team, when their starting QB was injured and their kicker missed a couple of chip-shot FGs.

I don't think anybody on earth thought Mizzou was capable of a run like this.

Both Mizzou and Auburn surprised everyone. Me included.

Looks like Auburn and FSU for no 1. Auburn Mizzou game? Wow! Michigan State beats OSU. Think a lot of people were surprised by that.
Still think Alabama is the best team in college football.
Interesting thing. Coaches across the country made adjustments to their special teams after the run back by Auburn against Alabama. How often does one play affect an entire sport? Not often.

That game was unique on so many levels. The idea that Missouri was playing for the SEC championship, after that crap-the-bed 5-7 season in '12, is still mind-boggling.

Auburn's running game was on a whole 'nother level from anything I've seen before. Some of Mizzou's best tackles came on guys who didn't have the ball, while the actual ball carrier had already gained 10+ yards. It was a master class in offensive execution. Even with my gut twisted by the outcome, I can only admire the Auburn coaches and players. That was just brilliant football.

Now Mizzou plays Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl Jan 3. That's not a bad consolation prize for either team. Whoever wins the game almost certainly finishes in the top 10.

If Bama takes care of business against Oklahoma, they should finish #2 behind whoever wins the Auburn-FSU game. And that's perfectly fair. As great a team as they have, they deserved to lose against Auburn. (It's one of the few non-Mizzou games I've watched this season.) From their first snaps they looked out of synch.

I have to wonder what LSU fans are thinking right now. They're the only team to beat Auburn, and they won by 2 TDs. And yet they lost to Georgia and Ole Miss, both on the road, by a total of 6 points, before losing by 21 to Alabama. They're ranked 16th, but they were pretty damned close to being top 10.

Damned entertaining season. I don't think anybody predicted FSU and Auburn playing for the national championship, or Alabama losing 2 games, or Michigan State as one of the top 3 teams.

Seems like a bad season for narratives. The SEC lost its streak of #1 finishes, but end up with 4 teams in the top 7, and 7 in the top 25.

And who would've guessed the ACC would end up with not only the national champ, but 3 teams in the top 25, including Duke. Now I wonder if their football team will finish with a higher ranking than their basketball team.

Very enjoyable season. Well, other than the part about the Hogs sucking hind tit. Lots of twists and turns this season. Certainly wished Auburn had won, but they had a great season.
    Congrats to FSU!
Maybe we will not suck as bad next year!
