    Running 40mpw and NROLFA?

    I want to do NROLFA in conjunction with my running and training for cross country in the fall. I will be running 40 mpw and I plan to do the weight workouts 2x/ week. I am worried however, that I will burn myself out with all the running and the intense workouts. I was thinking of giving the metabolic training in the program a miss, but would that inhibit progress in any way?

    Would this be too much? I have been doing 8-12 reps of basic exercises for a while now, and I feel like I need to change it up. Also, I would be able to periodize my strength training for max running performance, which would be nice.

    Please give me opinions/ advice! Thank you for your time!!

    I think your plan is sound. Try it and see if it works.

    I don't think you'll lose anything by skipping the metabolic work at the end. After all, you're training your body for steady-state endurance. Doing a lot of anaerobic work probably wouldn't help you reach that goal, while improved strength probably will.

    In case you need to find the "how-to" in combining running w/NROL, check out Eternal Beginner's log in the training section. I think he worked up to 60-70 MPW while doing NROL, and ran a sub-3 hr marathon.
